Promise Technology UltraTrak RM15000 Subsystem Beefs Up Storage Capacity to over 3TB with Highest Drive Density in 3U

SCSI-to-ATA RAID Subsystem Packs up to Fifteen Cost-Effective, High-Capacity Ultra ATA Drives into a Lean, 3U Rack-Optimized Server-Class Storage Solution

MILPITAS, Calif. -- April 22, 2003 -- Promise Technology, Inc., originator and global leader in ATA RAID data protection and storage solutions, today introduced the UltraTrak RM15000 ATA RAID storage subsystem, a new high-capacity addition to the UltraTrak family of server-class storage solutions. With support for up to fifteen off-the-shelf Ultra ATA drives, the UltraTrak RM15000 packs massive capacity of over 3TB for server-class RAID or JBOD storage, offering business professionals, MIS administrators, and corporate IT users the highest drive density 3U rackmount solution available.

"With widespread market acceptance of ATA drives in the server-class storage environment, ATA-based solutions like the UltraTrak RM15000 are gaining popularity as a cost-effective solution to the demand for capacity," said Sam Sirisena, vice president of sales and marketing worldwide, Promise Technology, Inc. "By extending the ATA RAID concept through solutions like the RM15000, Promise Technology demonstrates leadership and its ongoing commitment to the transformation of storage technology."

"In early 2002, we started using Promise's UltraTrak RM8000 subsystem for its strong combination of capacity and value," said Bret McGowan, vice president of marketing for Vicon Industries, a leading supplier of solutions for the digital video surveillance industry. "Now we are evaluating the new UltraTrak RM15000 and find that the system brings capacity and value to an unprecedented level."

Promise's successful UltraTrak family architecture delivers storage density, data protection, and value, maximized in the RM15000. The system's fifteen independent Ultra ATA channels provide as much as 3.75TB of storage with currently available 250GB ATA drives. The industry-standard Ultra160 LVD host interface offers convenient subsystem connectivity. Multiple UltraTrak systems can also be daisy chained for even greater capacity. UltraTrak subsystems support server-class RAID features such as hot-swap and hot-spare features, online capacity expansion, redundant key components, and support for RAID levels up to RAID 50. And, with Promise Technology's leadership-driven, industry-proven ATA expertise, UltraTrak subsystems offer "Freedom of Choice" hard drive selection, giving consumers the flexibility to populate the system with most off-the-shelf, high-performance Ultra ATA hard drives.

Set up, monitoring and management is simple and can be handled via any of three methods -- a push-button LCD panel; command line interface (CLI) using a terminal emulation program; or through the Web-based Promise Array Management (WebPAM) software.  WebPAM allows remote access and monitoring from Windows PCs to any UltraTrak array on the user's TCP/IP-based network.
