San Jose, Calif. – June 6, 2001 – Promise Technology Inc. received the 2001 Taiwan National Design Award honoring its new eight-drive UltraTrak100? TX8 ATA RAID 5 subsystem for Ultra ATA/100 drives, it was announced today.
The award, sponsored by the China External Trade Development Council (CETRA), was presented to Promise representatives by Taiwan Secretary-General Chun-hsiung Chang at ceremonies held May 28 in Taipei. While headquartered in San Jose, Promise performs some engineering and all manufacturing of its ATA RAID controllers and subsystems in Taiwan.
UltraTrak100 TX8 is an external storage subsystem that uses Ultra ATA drives and attaches to standard onboard or add-in SCSI controllers. It appears to the system as a standard SCSI device. The unit can house up to eight Ultra ATA/100 drives and is independently configured using push-buttons and an LCD display panel. UltraTrak100 TX8 supports RAID levels 5, 3, 10, 1, 0, and JBOD.
"We’re honored to receive this rare award for our most advanced ATA RAID subsystem to date," said Sam Sirisena, Promise vice president of sales and marketing worldwide. "We believe that UltraTrak100 TX8 represents a significant new step in ATA RAID to fulfill the storage and reliability needs of network professionals and resellers everywhere."
A total of 10 National Design Awards were selected among winning entries in three categories: Good Product Design (G-Mark), Good Graphics, and Taiwan Packaging Star (TP Star). Promise received the award in the "Good Product Design" category, which allows the company to use a G-mark symbol for packaging and advertising.
Well-known local and foreign judges are responsible for selecting the best design pieces at the biennial National Design Awards selection, first begun in 1981. Products created and submitted over the past two years in Taiwan are judged for the awards sponsored by CETRA, the foremost non-profit trade promotion organization in Taiwan, which was founded in 1970.
