Promise Technology FastTrak100 TX2 Dual Channel ATA RAID 0, 1 Card Offered As Optional Add-On For Compaq EVO Desktops And Workstations
Milpitas, Calif.; February 6, 2002 / PRNewswire - Promise Technology, Inc. announced today that its FastTrak100(TM) TX2 ATA RAID card is now available as an optional add-in for several of Compaq Computer Corporation's best-selling Evo business desktops and professional workstations.
Compaq qualified the dual-channel RAID 0, 1 card for use with its Evo D300 and D500 Desktop models, and its Evo Workstation W4000.
Current owners of any of these Compaq products can order the dual-channel RAID 0, 1 card direct from the Compaq website (www.compaq.com) as an after-market add-in under "Options for Business/RAID Controllers."
The FastTrak100 TX2 RAID card houses two ATA channels that permit up to four Ultra ATA/100 drives in RAID 0, 1, 0+1, or JBOD configurations. Users can achieve doubled sustained data transfers up to 133MB/sec by setting up a "striped" RAID 0 array with multiple drives. Higher data transfer rates are preferred in professional graphics, video/audio editing, and other high-speed data handling environments. Storage capacity equals the number of drives multiplied by the capacity of the smallest attached drive.
Users may also create fault tolerant, two-drive RAID 1 arrays or four-drive RAID 0+1 arrays that protect the integrity of user data in case a drive fails. Such arrays first mirror drive data to a second drive or striped pair of drives and sends identical data to both drives (or sets of drives) whenever a save operation is performed.
"The selection and installation of this ATA RAID card when used with multiple ATA drives can greatly enhance the storage capabilities of these popular business and workstation PCs in high performance, professional environments," said Jeff Groudan, Compaq Computer Corporation Director of Commercial Desktop Systems. "Users have great flexibility in building low-cost, high-performance arrays to meet their particular storage needs."
The award winning Evo Desktop series (D500 and D300) offers a broad choice of IntelR PentiumR 4 processors up to 2GHz, IntelR 845 chipset, from 512K to 3GB RAM, and up to 60GB Ultra ATA/100 drives, with a variety of enclosure styles. The versatile Evo Workstation W4000, featuring the latest in technology and design offers a choice of an IntelR PentiumR 4 processor up to 2.2 GHz, IntelR 845 chipset, up to 1.5GB RAM, a wide choice of advanced graphics cards, and Ultra ATA/100 hard drives up to 80GB.
"We're extremely pleased that Compaq has begun offering FastTrak100 TX2 to its broad base of business and professional workstation customers for the popular Evo Desktop, Evo Workstation, and Deskpro Workstation 300 series," said Sam Sirisena, Promise vice president of sales and marketing worldwide. "It shows that Promise ATA RAID offers an excellent, low-cost alternative to traditional storage solutions found in professional workstations."
